Battlefield 1942 is a registered trademark and Red Alert 2 is a trademark or registered trademark of Electronic Arts Inc. in the United States and other countries. Red Alert 2 is a game of strategy and tactics, in which players battle to control the Eurasian landmass (the so-called “Red Alert”) and use the resources of the new nation state of New Avalon to control the Pacific Ocean.
Avalon is a fictional archipelago-nation located in the Atlantic Ocean off the west coast of Africa, near the southern tip of South America. For most of the 20th century, Avalon and its inhabitants were under the rule of the United States. In the early 21st century, Avalon is divided between two warring nations, the United States and the Soviet Union, with the support of renegade Canadian troops and former revolutionaries. This creates a setting where the two adversaries vie for control of the world.
The game was originally released on the PC, but a retail version for the PlayStation 2 was released in North America in 2004, with versions for the Xbox and GameCube also being released later. A version for the Xbox Live Arcade was released in 2007. A port for the PlayStation 3 and PlayStation Portable was released in 2010.

Plot
Red Alert 2: Yuri's Revenge (RA2) tells the story of Yuri Orlov, the Red Army’s finest commander, who leads his troops in a battle to save the Earth from a group of renegade ex-American soldiers known as the Volunteer Corps.
The game opens in December 1984, with the Battle of the Bering Sea, in which the Volunteers, who have been exiled from the U.S., have begun to fortify a base, which they call New Avalon, on the Russian side of the Bering Strait.
Early in the game, General Sergei Chernov, the Soviet general in charge of nuclear missile defense, orders Yuri Orlov to destroy the Volunteers and their base, New Avalon. Following the logic of the original Red Alert, Yuri orders his troops to fire a nuclear missile at the United States in the hope of igniting a nuclear war.
